Bahia Grass – Forage
Bahia grass is a summer growing perennial forage crop.This creeping grass grows with rhizome-like stolons enabling stands to fill open areas and make dense, tough sods even on drought-prone sandy soils.

Dolichos beans is a prostrate, twining, herbaceous annual/ biennial crop. It is a summer legume crop with a well-developed taproot system. It is a dual purpose crop; pulse grains (human food) or forage (animal food) utilised by grazing it or in a cut-and-carry system.
Eragrostis (Weeping Love Grass)
Eragrostis Teff grass is an annual hay grass. On occasions it is used for grazing as well. It is very leafy and has fine stems. This makes it an excellent grass for hay production. Eragrostis Teff grass is quick to establish, and can be ready for hay making within 65 – 75 days.
Forage Sorghum
Forage Sorghums are erect, annual, summer grasses. They are widely adapted, but thrive in hot areas. The main stream Forage Sorghums in SA are hybrids and many different types of crosses exist.
Grain Sorghum Grass
Grain Sorghum grass is an annual summer crop. The grass is used for human and animal consumption and is also used for malt in brewing.
Grazing Vetch – Forage
Grazing vetch aka Woolly pod vetch is an annual or biennial (rarely) leguminous plant. It produces most of its growth during autumn, winter and spring. It is most commonly used as grazing or hay production.
Japanese Radish – Forage
Japanese Radish is an annual temperate root crop. This rout is cultivated for forage, and it has a thickened taproot that makes out the bulk of the production. It is conventionally utilised as grazing (sheep, goats or cattle), or alternatively fed to animals after uprooting it.
Kikuyu – Forage
Kikuyu grass is a stoloniferous (above ground) and rhizomatous (below ground) perennial summer pasture. It can be used as a permanent pasture. Surplus production can be ensiled. Kikuyu grass is also a popular turf species.
Lucerne / Alfalfa
Lucerne/Alfalfa is a perennial legume used as a forage crop. The leafy nature ensures a palatable, nutrient rich food source, which is why it is often referred to as “the queen of forage crops”. Its deep taproot system makes it especially resistant to drought, requiring rainfall as low as 400 mm per annum.
